Re:AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - IanNovember 12th 2008 10:57 Awesome Rick welcome back lol. I always loved that tune and you even jumped in there with the lead, Awesome brother!.
Re: AncientMariner isn't dead! - CliffNovember 13th 2008 7:48 Rick's back? I didn't know he was gone. LOL But he sure rocked this song. Rocked it outta the park he did.
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - teegeeNovember 13th 2008 1:43 Glad to see you\'re not dead Rick. That would be a bummer. Your sound is always so consistent!
Re: AncientMariner isn't dead! - HottscullNovember 13th 2008 4:39 Good to hear ya rockin Rick! killer tune too. Always had a thing for good R&R and hot chicks....
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - rockin ronNovember 13th 2008 7:15 that sounded kinda fun ....RR
Re: AncientMariner isn't dead! - MitchNovember 14th 2008 5:38 wow now there's one from the vault!!...great tune well played rick!!...hey hows the band coming along?
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - AncientMarinerNovember 15th 2008 6:48 We\'re still working on songs to get a complete set list (or at least enough to have a variety to play at an open mic). It\'s slow because of my family life. Just too many other things going on around the house here.
Otherwise I\'ve been writing a lot and trying to get a couple original songs done to my 90% satisfaction. I figure if I want 100% satisfaction with a song I\'ll never finish one! lol
I did buy a new digital camera that takes pretty good video but I still don\'t really have any editing tools nor am I really focused on making video. But that doesn\'t mean someday I won\'t make a video. I might get bored someday like I did last week when I did the Donnie Iris. So you never know.
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - teegeeNovember 15th 2008 10:34 Glad to hear you picked up a vidcam! We all know how life intervenes at times, leaving not much left for personal interests. I\'m sure you\'ll fit videomaking into your schedule sometime in the future ...and that\'ll be a good thing for all of us here.
Good luck on the set list. What have you included so far?
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - IanNovember 15th 2008 2:12 Nonsense Rick lol. Just set your camera on video mode shoot your vid, then upload it to your computer using the software that should have come with it. Then go into Windows Movie Maker and import the video. Nothing to it lol.
Look forward to seeing a vid from ya when you get around to it, no rush man!

In various stages of completeness we have Joe
Walsh \"Funk 49\", \"Walk Away\", \"Rock Mountain Way\", Cream\'s \"White Room\" and \"Sunshine..\", Spencer Davis \"Gimme Good Lovin\" and \"I\'m a Man\", a killer acoustic version of Kansas \"Carry On...\", Boston \"More Than a Feeling\", an REO tune, and Black Sabbath\'s \"Paranoid\". Oh, and Mississippi Queen.
Some are obviously modified for single guitar.
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - teegeeNovember 16th 2008 8:25 Dude, you\'re set list comes right from my backyard! Walsh is one of my fav artists going way back to teen-dom! Though I never could play anything like his style as a kid, his tone was one I attempted albeit unsucessfully. But Spencer Davis... man-o-man, that was one group I did master somewhat. When our teen-band played \"I\'m a Man\", we rocked the house.
Sounds like a great set. How much more do you need for an open stage?
Re: AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - kingsrvNovember 16th 2008 11:02 Rick, I\'m digging that set list alot. So for a little fill in, I knew you had a bass player, Are there others that I\'m out of the loop on??
Re:AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - parispatNovember 17th 2008 7:09 Rick, YOU ROCK. That song brought back memories. You were right on with the rhythm and lead playing. That was smokin\'. Do you learn these songs by ear or with tab. If by ear, you are amazing.

I learned this one entirely by ear as I do most songs. I check tab occasionally if I\'m stuck or if I\'m unsure something is right but that\'s pretty rare these days and it was unnecessary in this case.
B, it\'s just me and a bass player right now. And neither of us sing so we\'ll have to figure out something there before we hit some open mics. I\'ll either have to attempt to sing (God help us) or we\'ll have to find someone.
Teeg, our set list needs some more modern songs. Something at least from the 90\'s. I\'d hate to show up and find nobody over the age of 25 and have nothing they know.
Re:AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - MitchNovember 18th 2008 6:12 Hey Rick, couple of things....one...with the advent of Guitar Hero the under 25 crowd is more akin to our music then we are theirs...so i wouldn\'t worry to much about that part. As for finding people, I highly suggest Craigslist. When I was putting our band together I used, Bandmix.com, PA Musician, Local music stores bulletin boards, and a local musician online board, and nothing was nearly as successful as Craigslist.Just my 2 cents....
Re:AncientMariner isn\'t dead! - kingsrvNovember 18th 2008 9:13 I\'ll concur with Mitch on the set list vs age. When we played the benefit, all the other musicians were from 14-maybe 25. But when we played our set, many of them knew some of our songs, and if you notice a couple things in our videos, First the clapping to beat during simple man, All the youngsters, and second you\'ll notice a few people walking in while we play, those were friends that some of the other youngsters went and got to come watch us...So don\'t be surprised if you find a few 20 somthings singing along to your tunes.
