Ok guys and gals here is a tune I would like to share with you. Even if you have heard it before it has likely been a long time since you have heard it.
For those of you who have never heard it, This was a joint collaboration of the best metal and hard rock bands of the 80\'s that got together and did this song for Aids Research in Africa. This was when all of those other songs came out like We are the World and a few others.
The list includes all of the singers , guitar players and drummers that were involved in the recording of this great tune. But what made this song so great was the amount of guitar players there were just for the lead portion of the song. The solo itself is 2:30 long! Here is the list of all who were involved.
Singers:
Ronnie James Dio -Dio-
Dave Meniketti -Y&T-
Rob Halford -Judas Priest-
Kevin DuBrow -Quiet Riot-
Eric Bloom -Blue Oyster Cult-
Paul Shortino -Rough Cutt-
Geoff Tate -Queensryche-
Don Dokken -Dokken-
Guitar Solo:
Craig Goldy -Giuffria-
Eddie Ojeda -Twisted Sister-
Vivian Campbell -Dio-
Brad Gillis -Night Ranger-
Neal Schon -Journey-
George Lynch -Dokken-
Yngwie Malmsteen
Carlos Cavazo -Quiet Riot-
Donald \"Buck Dharma\" Roeser -B.O.C-
Adrian Smith & Dave Murray -Iron Maiden-
This list doesn\'t cover everyone who was involved I will try to remember who else was there
Blackie Lawless-Wasp
Mick Mars-Motley Crue
Ted Nugent
Robin Crosby - Ratt
Warren DiMartini-Ratt
Vince Neil-Motley Crue
The members of the fictitious band Spinal Tap
Jeff Pilson-Dokken
and a few others I can\'t remember.
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - AncientMarinerFebruary 22nd 2008 6:00 Here\'s the full list.. BTW, Craig Goldy was probably most famous for replacing Vivian Campbell in Dio sometime after Hear N Aid. Nobody has ever heard of Guiffria.
Re: Heard 'n' Aid - Stars - MitchFebruary 22nd 2008 9:06 thanks ian...damn i forgot about that effort....man look at all the big hair...bigger sunglasses and i'll bet everyone was clean and sober...lol...since this was coming on the heels of live aid and "we are the world" it got over shadowed by the main stream fluff...by the rock world here, we saw it as a coming together of the giants at the time...if we ever have a nlgtv get together we will need a song like this in advance so we can do somthing like this on our own...ummmm....any song writers out there?...
thanks for sharing Ian
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - IanFebruary 22nd 2008 11:48 Thanks for the link Rick, I never thought of checking Wikipedia. The list of guitar players and singers and drummers was done by the person who posted this vid on You Tube, I added the rest at the bottom.
Ya Mitch that would be cool man to have a collaborated NLGTV song lol. For some of us who have been writing some music already, Me ,Todd, Mitch, Rick,Troy, TG, Brandino, Jess,Trevor,Scott,Parispat oh and let\'s not forget the song that Bounty wrote lol, I think it would be a great thing for one or all of us to get together and do some writing whether it be through email or direct contact.
Cool idea Mitch maybe we should consider this for a future project for NLGTV.
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - IanFebruary 22nd 2008 11:51 Ya Rick I forgot about Goldy replacing Vivian in Dio, The one song I remember Craig for the most was \"All the Fools Sailed Away\" and he was known for that custom BC Rich Warlock he always used. But I think Vivian Campbell was what made Dio-Dio! lol.
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - JimmylegsFebruary 22nd 2008 9:53 I actually remember that one Ian. Man they all look so young then and your probably right for the most part at least partially sober.
NLGTV AID would be cool.
AM what do you mean nobody every heard of Giuffria. I probably still have one of there cassettes, probably the only one the ever made too.
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - IanFebruary 22nd 2008 11:21 Ya Jimmy Giuffria only made one album with all the original members. They had another album about 2 or 3 years after their first but by that time Goldy had left and gone to Dio. they broke up shortly after the second album was released.
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - teegeeFebruary 23rd 2008 7:24 Sounds like a project I would like to get involved with! Anyone want to begin with a rhythm track progression?

Sure....
Re:Heard \'n\' Aid - Stars - IanFebruary 23rd 2008 10:43 We would have to decide what type of music but then again any rythm track can be used for pretty any type of lead. SO start writing lol.
A truly great tune for one of the best causes - Aids. This song was done in the mid 80's as a support for Aids Research and no on ever thought of doing a support song in metal until Vivian Campbell and Jimmy Bain both from Dio at the time said we need to do one of these songs too! So they did and this is the result. Enjoy! [More] [Less]
